How much we love our children! It’s difficult not to center our lives around them. After-all, their demands or “needs” seem to cry out so much louder than ours.

But have you ever thought about what that does to their out-look in life if they appear to be the center of attention —the center of their universe?

And what does it do to your marriage? As you keep shoving aside your needs and the needs of your marital “partner?” Is your spouse simply a partner in parenting, or a partner in life? You didn’t start your marriage out that way, and someday (if both of you and your marriage is still alive) you’ll end up together —just the two of you.

Have you thought of that or planned for that?

We’ve seen so many marriages eventually crumble after the children leave home. It’s called “Empty-nest divorce.” And it’s becoming more and more common because we’re allowing our children to be the center of our lives together and when the children leave home the marriage dissolves because there wasn’t anything built to sustain it.

It’s the house built upon the rock concept where you need to build your house strong upon a solid base BEFORE the storms come (or the children leave home).
