  1. (UNITED STATES)  It was our first Christmas as a married couple, so we were learning to negotiate our difference and combine our family traditions. We snowshoed in the Colorado mountains to find our live Christmas tree and cut it down. It was a beautiful crisp, sunny, bright, blue skied day and we worked together to find the right tree and saw it down. Once we got it home it was way too big to fit in the house so we had to cut off another foot or two. We didn’t have many Christmas decorations, but the tree was still beautiful in the house.

After the holidays were over, the tree started shedding its needles like crazy and in the attempts to clean things up the vacuum ended up pulverizing the needles and grinding them into the white carpet. Instead of getting angry, we just laughed and worked together to clean up the mess with a steam cleaner. It was a humble Christmas, but being in the mountains, and sharing our traditions made it one of the best Christmases ever.
