(USA) My beautiful wife of twenty-eight years and I have found that taking time away every once in a while (twice a year minimum) has been one of the things that keeps our marriage strong. Most of the time we go somewhere like Biltmore Estates in Asheville, N.C. Or we'll just get in the car and drive until we get tired, find a motel that looks decent then get up in the morning and drive home.

Time away doesn't have to be expensive, nor does it have to be a full week. Just do it! The important thing is that we are together, alone, with no kids, no work, no phone, no demands (even from me), no distractions, just each other. When taking time away, one thing that has been very difficult for me to learn is that sex is not the object of getting away with your wife.

Yes, there probably will be sex but that should not be the primary focus of your time together. She doesn't want to feel as though she has to perform for you. If you really want to give your wife a blessing, try planning some time when you know the "Scarlet Lady" will come to visit. Then she knows for certain that what you want is just to be with her and spend some quality time together just loving each other.
