I have a wonderful marriage but at times when loving my spouse feels like 'going against the grain' but I do it anyway out of reverence and obedience for Christ, I have found that I'm the better for it, and so is our marriage. The fact that God compares his relationship with the church with marriage makes me know its not a thing to be taken lightly. What a privilege and opportunity to model Christ's relationship with his bride. I don't always get it right but like I said, there lies my opportunity to build my character.When I'd rather sulk and have a pity party I remember God saying "do not let the sun go down on your anger....., anger rests in the bosom off fools...' There lies my choice; to give in to self or obey God, thereby becoming a better person and a good example. I have found marriage to be a character building exercise.
